Our Healing Members
It was reported by Lion Brian Becker that Lion Larry Juncker's wife was in the hospital over the Mother's Day weekend. Lion Larry confirmed and reported that she had emergency surgery for an enlarged Hiatal Hernia which allowed her stomach to enter her upper chest area and twist around her diaphragm. She is back at home now and recovering. Recovery is expected to be lengthy due to the severity. Prayers and best wishes to Sheila as she recovers.
It was reported by Lion Larry Juncker that Lion Dylan Drummond's mother passed away on Mother's Day weekend. A card was passed around for present members to sign. Our prayers go out to Dylan and his family in these most trying times. |

OPEN MEETING DISCUSSION |
Ballots for next years officers were passed out to all present members in good standing.
Upon collection of the ballots, a point of order was made by Lion Cheryl Hurdel that since all offices were running unopposed, that a motion, second and approval were not necessary.
A small discussion incurred and after that, the ballot was declared unanimous and all NEW officers are listed above in the Election Committee notes.
Lion Mike Mulroney reported that Community Christian School wanted to invite our club to manage their kids game day that is coming up at their school.
A discussion incurred and it was decided that with everything else that we have going on in the near future and with declining manpower ourselves, that now was not the right time to help them out.
A question was brought up as to Ragbrai and whether Lion Jim Gill had gotten any further information, and as of yet, there is none.
If I missed any of the notes, I apologize, but I believe this is fairly accurate.
LOOKING FORWARD TO SEEING EVERYONE May 20th AT THE STEAK FRY!!!!

NO SPECIAL PROGRAM THIS WEEK
|
|
Special Guest Program:
Our program today was informational about Friendship Haven here in Fort Dodge.
Rollie Peterson Vice President Residential Life/Corporate Compliance Officer
and
Kim Schilling VP Health Services
reported on the effect and special circumstances that had to be put into place because of Covid-19 at Friendship Haven during the past year. Due to the policies that were put into place at the facility very few cases of Covid-19 were encountered. In fact they learned that, as much as they hate them too, masks did do their job in protecting EVERYONE at the campus.
They were also happy to announce that the facility is once again OPEN to the public albeit with some restrictions such as (Masks are still required when on campus, temperatures are taken of all entering the campus).
An interesting piece of information that was shared is that the Wellness Center including pool and weight rooms are open on a membership basis to any adult in the area over age 55.
If you have never been on the Friendship Haven campus, give them a call at the Welcome Center and set up a tour of the campus. It is a really impressive place.

Lion Steve Rehmann provided us with the word of the week. The word is
Shrive (verb)
\ ˈshrīv , especially Southern ˈsrīv \
shrived or shrove\ ˈshrōv , ˈsrōv \; shriven\ ˈshri-vən , ˈsri- \ or shrived; shriving
Definition of shrive
transitive verb
1: to administer the sacrament of reconciliation to
2: to free from guilt
intransitive verb
archaic : to confess one's sins especially to a priest
Did You Know?
We wouldn't want to give the history of shrive short shrift, so here's the whole story. It began when the Latin verb scribere (meaning "to write") found its way onto the tongues of certain Germanic peoples who brought it to Britain in the early Middle Ages. Because it was often used for laying down directions or rules in writing, 8th-century Old English speakers used their form of the term, scrīfan, to mean "to prescribe or impose." The Church adopted scrīfan to refer to the act of assigning penance to sinners and, later, to hearing confession and administering absolution. Today shrift, the noun form of shrive, makes up half of short shrift, a phrase meaning "little or no consideration." Originally, short shrift was the barely adequate time for confession before an execution.
First Known Use of shrive
before the 12th century, in the meaning defined at transitive sense 1

Lions Clubs International is the largest service club organization in the world. We have more than 1.4 million members in more than 46,000 clubs worldwide.
Lions give sight. By conducting vision screenings, equipping hospitals and clinics, distributing medicine and
raising awareness of eye disease, Lions work toward the goal of providing vision for all. Through the support of the
Lions Clubs International Foundation (LCIF), Lions have helped provide more than 153 million treatments for river
blindness and 72 million doses of a sight-saving trachoma medication through the SightFirst program alongside
our partners. Lions and LCIF have also helped provide vision screenings for more than 22 million children through
the Sight for Kids partnership program./p>
Where there’s a need, there’s a Lion.
For every incredible Lions service project, there are hundreds more just like it—filled with kind-hearted individuals volunteering their time to better our communities. Lions represent the best in all of us. Being part of a Lions club means having the opportunity to do something truly special: selflessly serve others.
