Lion Tom Webster reported:
The steak fry went very well and had a terrific turnout. The weather worked with us for most of the night. A Very Special Thank You goes out to ALL the family/friend volunteers who helped make this such a success. We delivered over 700 steaks that night and the drive thru worked out awesome. Lion Sean and Lion Cheryl manned the drive thru outside while Lions Jim Gill's daughter headed up the inside. Awesome job everyone!!!1

OPEN MEETING DISCUSSION |
As of meeting time, Lion Steve Rehmann had not heard anything back from the University of Iowa on our lady needing the specialty ocular lenses. He did mention that he had spoken with Rosemary a tthe Evening Lions club regarding their participation in this project. She was going to get back to him. The donation buckets placed on the tables at the Steak Fry collected $67.90 toward the $4000 cost.
The Frontier Days entry number is 17 and we are in search of someone to take on the float for the parade, otherwise, we just won't be in the parade
A question was brought up as to Ragbrai and whether Lion Jim Gill had gotten any further information, and as of yet, there is none.
If I missed any of the notes, I apologize, but I believe this is fairly accurate.
Lion of the Year and Induction of New Officers will take place at the June 30th Regular Business Meeting

NO SPECIAL PROGRAM THIS WEEK

Special Guest Program:
Our program today was informational about Friendship Haven here in Fort Dodge.
Rollie Peterson Vice President Residential Life/Corporate Compliance Officer
and
Kim Schilling VP Health Services
reported on the effect and special circumstances that had to be put into place because of Covid-19 at Friendship Haven during the past year. Due to the policies that were put into place at the facility very few cases of Covid-19 were encountered. In fact they learned that, as much as they hate them too, masks did do their job in protecting EVERYONE at the campus.
They were also happy to announce that the facility is once again OPEN to the public albeit with some restrictions such as (Masks are still required when on campus, temperatures are taken of all entering the campus).
An interesting piece of information that was shared is that the Wellness Center including pool and weight rooms are open on a membership basis to any adult in the area over age 55.
If you have never been on the Friendship Haven campus, give them a call at the Welcome Center and set up a tour of the campus. It is a really impressive place.

Lion Steve Rehmann provided us with the word of the week. The word is
GADFLY (noun)
\ gad·fly | \ ˈgad-ˌflī \
Definition of gadfly
1: any of various flies (such as a horsefly, botfly, or warble fly) that bite or annoy livestock
2: a person who stimulates or annoys other people especially by persistent criticism
// a political gadfly
?????Like TailTwister? Just asking, you know YOU were thinking the same....lol
The Gadfly of Athens
The history of gadfly starts with gad, which now means "chisel" but which formerly could designate a spike, spear, or rod for goading cattle. Late in the 16th century, gad was joined with fly to designate any of several insects that aggravate livestock. Before too long, we began applying gadfly to people who annoy or provoke others. One of history's most famous gadflies was the philosopher Socrates, who was known for his constant questioning of his fellow Athenians' ethics, misconceptions, and assumptions. In his Apology, Plato describes Socrates' characterization of Athens as a large and sluggish horse and of Socrates himself as the fly that bites and rouses it. Many translations use gadfly in this portion of the Apology, and Socrates is sometimes referred to as the "gadfly of Athens."
Examples of gadfly in a Sentence
A loud sports commentator who was a tactless gadfly during post-game interviews with the losing team

Lions Clubs International is the largest service club organization in the world. We have more than 1.4 million members in more than 46,000 clubs worldwide.
Lions give sight. By conducting vision screenings, equipping hospitals and clinics, distributing medicine and
raising awareness of eye disease, Lions work toward the goal of providing vision for all. Through the support of the
Lions Clubs International Foundation (LCIF), Lions have helped provide more than 153 million treatments for river
blindness and 72 million doses of a sight-saving trachoma medication through the SightFirst program alongside
our partners. Lions and LCIF have also helped provide vision screenings for more than 22 million children through
the Sight for Kids partnership program./p>
Where there’s a need, there’s a Lion.
For every incredible Lions service project, there are hundreds more just like it—filled with kind-hearted individuals volunteering their time to better our communities. Lions represent the best in all of us. Being part of a Lions club means having the opportunity to do something truly special: selflessly serve others.
